Sometimes Surprisingly Poor Results from Tweets

Based on my own Tweeting I have discovered we usually get from 5 to 15 visits going to the link in my Tweets, within 15-minutes of the Tweet time, based on having just a little over 1,000 followers.

However, sometimes after 15-min of third-party Tweets (who link to my site) from websites who have far more followers (ranging from about 5,000 all the way to 35,000), there are only 5 or 6 real visitors to the linked site.

That compares extremely poorly vs my own Tweets which typically have approximately double the visits to the link, but coming from far fewer followers.

This makes little sense to me. Anyone have some thoughts on how that scenario is possible?

Website Links/Ads Don’t Give Court Jurisdiction

A recent decision by United States District Court in Missouri clarified an important distinction regarding jurisdictional issues within internet law about intrenet law jurisdictional issues. The Federal Court entered judgment in favor of the defendant, a Costa Rican software company, finding no personal jurisdiction.

The Federal Court decision hinged upon the nature of the software company’s hyperlinks on its website. The District Court held the defendants website, which was passive, but linked to inter-active sites, did not provide the requisite minimum contacts to satisfy personal jurisdiction because the company did not control the target sites.

In the USA, for a court to enter a legally valid judgment against a person, the court must first have personal jurisdiction over that person. An out of state defendant cannot be subject to personal jurisdiction if that defendant has not had a sufficient amount of “minimum contact” with the state where jurisdiction is claimed. A defendant must purposely “reach in,” to that state in order to be sued there legally.

In the context of the internet, the prevailing trend by courts is to rule that jurisdiction is proper when the defendant maintains a website that is interactive in nature, and/or a site which gives users an opportunity to conduct business or otherwise provide input to the website.

This means that a person operating an interactive website opens themselves to jurisdiction in any state from which the website receives visitors. Whereas maintaining a passive website, one which merely displays information for the user to peruse, i.e. a blog, is not sufficient to establish minimum contacts. However, the question in this case turned on what the determination should be when a passive website displays links/advertisements for interactive sites?

The court in this case answered that question by ruling that the third-party target sites were irrelevant to the minimum contacts analysis. Jurisdiction should turn on the company’s purposeful activities, rather than uncertain and immeasurable ties between the company and the third party’s online contacts with the state.

The court stated, “The activity of those hyperlinked websites supports jurisdiction only if defendants maintain some responsibility for or control over the activities and contents of the third-party sites.” While the legal debate surrounding the interactivity test continues, with many detractors arguing it’s web 1.0 specific, this ruling should be encouraging for many website operators, and especially encouraging to Sedo users.

If the district court would have ruled the other way, it would have meant domain name owners who use ppc ads and parking pages could be subject to almost universal personal jurisdiction depending on the interactive nature of the linked web site. Do Websites & Traffic Add Major Value to Prices?

There has been discussion on domain-name forums and blogs about developed websites adding significant value to domain names, and also making the domains easier to sell plus sell for a higher price. Agree to a degree, a developed web site with traffic is of high overall value. However, with that said, based on hands-on experience, I can say end-users rarely if ever care about the traffic your domain or its website gets, and in fact don’t ask for any statistics. Even if you offer them your stats, they don’t want to see it.

In view if the above I am unfortunately somewhat dubious about a developed website (with good traffic and typeins too) being more appealing to end-user buyers and the price they will pay for the domain, at least much beyond intrinsic value. Potential end-user buyers may actually be a bit negative about an existing web site and as a result its pre-branding.

Please note that my comments do not indicate I am negative about developed websites, or do not greatly value traffic. The exact opposite is true, since I have a number of developed sites which I am very happy with, most of which get good search-engine traffic, enjoy the benefits of high SEO rankings, plus receive natural typeins (from Internet users like President Barack Obama, pictured below, likely looking at a health website)…

Is It Still Possible to Register Domains with Value?

Is it possible to freshly register domain names of value (which may not necessarily make you rich) but have some value, and can make you at least a bit of money?

Rarely a week passes where we do not stumble upon at least a few unreg’d names which I am sure would get natural traffic plus search traffic too. We can’t possibly register them all (there are simply too many good ones) but when we do register the available domains there are often typein visitors to the temporary webpage right away.

Anyone else run across good targeted keyword unregistered domains lately?

Business Success Advice from Bob Parsons

Just ran across an excellent video presentation by Bob Parsons (GoDaddy) about how to be successful in business. It’s really worth a look, espcially Bob’s interesting advice about never answering your own phone!

101-years ago a Trader Showed His Greatness

The best stocks and commodities trader of all-time was without a doubt Mr. W.D. Gann, who certainly had the most interesting and mystical trading method too. This was reported about Mr Gann by the Ticker Magazine more than 100-years ago in the year 1909. During the summer of 1909 Willima D. Gann predicted the September Wheat contract trading on the Chicago Board of Trade would sell at a price of $1.20. This meant t it must touch $1.20 price before the end of the month of September. At 12:00 Chicago time, on September 30th (the last day) Sept Wheat futures was selling under $1.08, and it looked as though Gann;s prediction would not be fulfilled.

Mr. Gann said, ‘If it does not touch $1.20 by the close of the market it will prove that there is something wrong with my whole method of calculation. I do not care what the price is now, it must go there.’ It’s now history September Wheat surprised the whole country by selling at exactly $1.20 and no higher in the very last hour of trading, with its closing price being exactly $1.20”

So much for what Mr. Gann has said and done as evidenced by himself and others. Now as to what demonstrations have taken place before our representative: During the month of October, 1909, in 25 trading days, W.D. Gann made in the presence of our representative 286 trades in various stocks, on both the long and short side of the market. 264 of these transactions resulted in profits, with just 22 losses.

The capital with which he operated was doubled ten times, so that at the end of the month he had one thousand percent of his original margin. In our presence Mr. Gann sold US Steel common short at 94-7/8, saying it would not go to 95. It did not. On a drive which occurred during the week ending October 29, Mr. Gann bought Steel common at 86-1/4, saying it would not go to 86. The lowest it sold was 86-1/3.

We have seen him give in one day sixteen successive orders in the same stock, eight of which turned out to be at either the top or the bottom eighth of that particular swing. The above we can positively verify. Such performances as these, coupled with the foregoing, are probably unparalleled in the history of the Street.

James R. Koene said, “The man who is right six times out of ten will make a fortune.” He is a trader who, without any attempt to make a showing, for he did not know the results were to be published, established a record of over ninety-two percent profitable trades. Mr. Gann has refused to disclose his method at any price, but to those scientifically inclined he has unquestionably added to the stock of Wall Street knowledge and pointed out infinite trading and investment possibilities.

Newly Developed Family Child Center Website

This week we completed a new small web site about child-care and family child care centers. Getting good and responsible child care for your kids is very important to both the children and parents.

By the way, we need more content for this new website. Do you have anything to contribute about child care, kids, rasing kids, children’s entertainmen, etc, (possibly family experience with childcare) that we could publish on the site for everyone’s benefit?

A content contribution would be greatly appreciated. If you choose to contribute some general knowledge to the site it does not need to be professionally written. Either long or short is ok. You name may be used or not published if you wish.

Time Duration Secrets to Profitable Day Trading

According to our extensive hands-on futures market research, most successful day-trades last about 7-minutes. That assumes the trader is using a reasonable profit objective and exiting the trade as his profit target is hit.

Most losing day trades last approximately 45-minutes on average, when the trader finally exits out of the losing trade. That’s because the trader relies on hope once he sees the trade losing money. The trader hangs-on to the losing trade position relying on hope the market will change trend and turn in his favor. However, eventually the equity loss becomes too large which finally forces the trader to exit the trade and take a big loss rather than possibly lose even more money by hanging on even longer.

Are you wondering how this little known information can help you trade the markets profitably? The short answer is at the end of 7-minutes in the trade you might consider getting out regardless of the fact your profit target was not hit or you have a loss at that time, keeping in mind the more past 7-minutes it goes the less likely the trade will be a winner.

Insights For Search Predicts Real Estate Collapse

In the past we have posted several times about how financial market traders can use relatively simple chart patterns involving higher-swing-lows and lower-swing-highs to successfully trade the stocks & commodities markets, options market and with other investing.

I was doing research on this powerful trading concept this morning and was thinking the incredible real estate market decline could be a good example of how well it can work. Therefore, I went to Google’s “Insights For Search” and searched for “MLS Listing” which is a widely used real estate term by home buyers and sellers.

This is the explanation of how Insights For Search works from Google: “Google Insights for Search analyzes a portion of world-wide Google web-searches from all Google domains to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you’ve entered, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time. You can choose to see data for select Google properties, including Web search, Images, Product search, and News search.”

The Google Chart displays the most perfect long-term examples I have ever seen visually depicting the great power of swing highs and swing lows. Starting in 2004 the chart shows a series of 8 important swing highs and 6 major swing-lows. Of particular importance is the Dec 06 swing low which broke the old support level established Dec 05 by that major 2005 swing low. Once that old support level was broken in Dec 06 it conformed a major real estate bear market. The market is believed to be the most severely depressed real estate market of all-time, especially in areas of the U.S. such as Arizona, Nevada, California and Florida.

If you were buying/selling real estate the chart clearly shows starting in the year 2005 you should have been selling (not buying) real estate based on the important July 2005 swing-low (which you knew about at the end of August 05, and was confirmed Nov of 2005 which was the month the previous major swing-low was confirmed. The next series of 4 major lower-swing-highs which were in mid-2006, mid-2007, and early-2008 and 2009 confirmed the bear market was ongoing and getting even stronger.

The strong nationwide real estate decline started in late summer of 2005 in several Sunbelt states at the end of Aug 05 (at least according to my knowledge and statistics). However, it got underway a little later in other areas of the nation and the media often reports the bear market started during the year 2006. In my opinion this chart is one of the most picture book perfect and accurate examples of how powerful swing-highs an swing-lows can be. It is something you should always look at and take into strong consideration while trading the markets or investing.

Real-Time Example of Page Title Keyword Value

There has been an ongoing discussion for years about the SEO value of having important keywords in the webpage title. Some SEO experts tend to downplay its value to a degree, while many others say it is of high value. Personally, I have always talked about its great value.

As an experiment I picked a more or less randomly chosen basic word, the word is ‘make’ and then did a Google search for “make.” The search shows out of 100 top search results the keyword was in the web-page title 95 times (95% of the total).

I think that is pretty strong evidence of its significant SEO value. In fact, it would appear the keyword in page title may even be of equal or greater value than the website content (at least on some of the search-result sites I looked at). This is all quite interesting if this seo research is in fact valid.

Websurfers are Typing-in their Search-Terms

A forum member posted about how he believes people are using the search engines less, with less searches being done in his opinion.

I don’t necessarily agree about search declining. However, web-surfers are in all likelihood realizing most every keyword phrase, product, service and search-term now resolves to an active website so as time goes by they are more inclined to typein with more and more frequency the keywords they are looking for directly into the internet browser window or entering the same term (without spaces, with domain extension) in the search box. They do that by entering the search term, most iften followed by .com extension, with .org being next in typein popularity, i.e. Word1Word2.com or Word1Word2Word3.org. etc…

Wondering About the Knowledge of Domainers?

There are a lot of mysteries with domaining such as how often expired names sell at places like Snapnames for $60 or more but no sale for $20 before expiration at forums, etc.

However, the oddity which really has me wondering about the knowledge many domainers really have is why I keep on running into health and medical related domains available in .org but already reg’d in other extensions which have far less likelihood of traffic vs dot-org?

I can say based on lots of experience the only 2 tld’s which work nicely with health names are .com and .org. In fact, depending on the name .org can sometimes do as well or even better vs .com in health/disease related names. All the others are poor with very rare typeins.

Just this afternoon I was doing research using Google’s Insights For Search and discovered a real nice 3 word health term which seems like it would get both search and typein traffic.

I figured it would be taken in dot-com and dot-org for sure and maybe even other extensions but upon checking was surprised to see it unregistered in .org but taken in .com .net .biz .info .us and even .eu so I quickly registered the dot-org.

Why is it not better known that dot-org works so well in the health, wellness and disease category? Just one of life’s many mysteries I guess.
